The Ondo State Government has approved N3.5 billion in counterpart funding for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), a World Bank-supported rural road initiative aimed at boosting infrastructure and agricultural productivity in the state.
The decision was part of key resolutions reached at the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, and chaired by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, said the funds will support the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads across all 18 local government areas. He added that detailed road assessments and hydraulic designs will be conducted to improve drainage systems and ensure durability.
“We’re moving beyond temporary fixes,” Olawoye said. “Our focus is on lasting infrastructure that supports rural livelihoods and opens access to markets.”
In a separate briefing, Commissioner for Environment Dr. Tob Loko announced the launch of a comprehensive flood-mapping exercise across the state. He said the initiative is part of efforts to mitigate the growing impact of climate change and prepare for potential disasters.
“This is more than mapping. We’re identifying root causes of vulnerability and preparing emergency responses,” he said.
Loko urged residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to cooperate with government teams during assessments and possible interventions.
Also at the meeting, the EXCO confirmed the appointment of two traditional rulers: Prince Olusola Joseph Ajaka as the first Gbogunro of Idi-Ogba Alagbon in Ilaje LGA, and Prince Isiaka Oseni as the new Alale of Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South West LGA. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the appointments followed due process.
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, described the decisions as evidence of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s commitment to development across sectors and urged continued public support.
