The Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027, a political interest group of Ègbá indigenes in Ogun State, has announced the expulsion of members accused of creating a faction to undermine the group’s mission. This was disclosed in a statement dated January 2, 2025, signed by the Convener and Executive National Coordinator, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, and the National Secretary, Layemi Osanyintola.
The statement noted that the expelled individuals attempted to confuse the public and disrupt the group’s activities. “Some elements decided to form a factional body, with a similar name or identity, to confuse members of the public for the purpose of undermining the authenticity of our objectives and the 1st Strategic Report,” the statement read.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity in identifying credible candidates for the Ogun State governorship in 2027. “Our firm objective is anchored on our principled commitment to identify credible and capable Egba sons or daughters from any of the political parties, groups, or camps to emerge as governor,” the statement added.
Prof. Oke and Osanyintola emphasized that the movement recognizes both paternal and maternal lineages as valid criteria for Egba identity, in line with constitutional provisions.
“The law does not allow anyone to discriminate based on the circumstances of someone’s birth to a father or mother. Sons and daughters of maternal or paternal extraction have equal rights,” they stated.
Addressing the factional crisis, the statement identified the alleged leader of the faction as “one retired Nurse, who recently returned to Nigeria to join and flex empty political muscles.” The group maintained that the faction’s activities were “misplaced” and urged the public to disregard their claims.
The Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027 reiterated its commitment to unity and progress, calling on all stakeholders to collaborate in fostering sustainable governance in Ogun State. “We stand by our 1st Strategic Report and its content,” the statement concluded.
