Few days after closing rescue operations on the aftermath of the Ibadan explosion, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has advised residents whose buildings were affected by the explosion and who may not have been reached or enumerated by the governemrnt, to take advantage of the window.
Residents of the ancient city of Ibadan were, on January 17th thrown into mourning when an explosion shattered houses and other structures in Bodija area of the city and environs, leaving some peoplke dead and maiming many others.
Speaking through his verified X handle on Thursday, Governor Makinde announced that the government is raising funds to support victims by receiving donations from individuals, groups and organizations who may want to support the victims. According to him, the structural tests on affeceted buildings is still underway as well as the seismic measurements from the epicentre, which he siad is being undertaken by geologists from the University of Ibadan.
He added that the government remains commited to ensuring that the victims get justice, just as it continues to collate details of those affected by the explosion.
Makinde took time to appreciate those who have supported the people and the government to recover from the sad incident. He said: “Let me start by thanking all those who took part in the search and rescue operations at Ground Zero over the past week especially our first responders from OYSEMA, medical workers and security agencies.” He wrote
“We appreciate the team from the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NNRA) who took measurements at the epicentre and found only normal background radiation doses.
“Also, we thank the geologists from the University of Ibadan led by two Professors who are taking the seismic measurements from the epicentre.
“The structural integrity tests on buildings around Ground Zero are still ongoing.
“The Emergency Operations Centre is available to attend to anyone affected by the explosion. Any persons still not accounted for after the incident should be reported to the EOC on 07049948057 or 08147672009.
“We have also set up a platform for donations to victims. The money donated goes directly to the Landlords/Residents Association’s bank account while our administration will work with them to ensure it is distributed to the right beneficiaries. Link emergencysupport.oyostate.gov.ng
“Residents of Oyo State are once again reminded to call 615 free of charge if they see anything untoward in their communities. Remember, if you see something, say something and the authorities will act on your report.” The governor announced.
