The Ogun state Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu has announced that the police officer who opened fire on a Yoruba movie Director on Saturday is facing displinary action. He made the disclosure on Sunday when he visited the director/actor, Azeez Ijaduade who is receiving treatment at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Ogun state.
Alamutu said the police officer pulled the trigger in order to scare thugs away from the area, when the incident happened. He however said the shooting could not be justified.
Ijaduade who is son to popular actor and director, Waheed Ijaduade a.k.a Dimeji was reportedly shot in the neck in Ikene Remo on Saturday night. He was rushed to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital which is not far from the spot of the shooting. His colleagues including Kazeem Abimbola Ibrahim a.k.a Jigan babaoja and Adeniyi Johnson, called on justice for Ijaduade as they expressed anger over the development on their respective Instagram pages.
“It was actually an unfortunate incident, but from all indications, I have seen the victim, it was not a direct hit. Actually, some people were trying to mob the principal the policeman was attached with, in a bit to scare them off, he had to fire some shots. It was unfortunate the victim was within that axis. It was the shell that hit the victim.” Alamutu told Punch Newspaper when he visited Ijaduade in the hospital on Sunday morning.
“From all indications, he is getting better. The concerned policeman is already undergoing disciplinary procedure. What is important is for us to ensure that no life is lost.
“From what I’ve seen so far, he’s recuperating, only that he needs to be observed for some time to ensure that no vital part of his body is affected. From the way I see him, I believe none is affected. But that can only be certified by the medical experts,” The Ogun state police chief said
