Mr Damilola Soneye, Member, Ogun House of Assembly on Wednesday called for a strong collaboration between the private sector and the government to tackle housing deficit in Nigeria.
Soneye disclosed this on Wednesday while inaugurating a housing estate project in Bara, Orile Imo area of the state.
The estate was facilitated by High Chief Olakunle Olalekan, the Asiwaju of Orile Imo, in Obafemi/Owode Local Government area of the state.
Soneye, Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his massive investment in providing affordable housing with more than five new housing estates spanning across Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ilaro, Ijebu Ode, Iperu, Kobape among others across the state.
The lawmaker said that due to the rapid growth of the country’s population, targeted efforts and investment by the private sector to complement efforts of the government in providing housing at all levels remain commendable and would always be supported and appreciated.
Soneye posited that Abiodun had done a lot to tackle housing deficit by ensuring that people live conveniently and securely in the state.
He noted that what the community leader had done with the housing project was commendable particularly as it conforms with the vision of Abiodun in ensuring affordable housing for the residents of the state
Soneye explained that “Olalekan with all the empowerment and investment, he has put up here, he is really complementing the government effort, he is making people live conveniently to have access to a lot of things which he has also put in the Ibara community”
Soneye explained that “We are really excited to see what Chief Olakunle Olalekan is doing particularly with the housing project.
“This syncs with the Gov Abiodun’s call for private sector collaboration with the government to upgrade our infrastructure and make life more comfortable for the people
“It is a common knowledge that Gov Abiodun-led administration has done so much in terms of providing affordable housing for the residents of the state. We have the Prince Court Estate, Phase 1 and 2 in Abeokuta, we have the low-cost housing estates at Kobape, Iperu, Ilaro, Sagamu among others.
“I congratulate Chief Olakunle Olalekan for this bold initiative and I want to urge other private individuals and corporate organisations to learn from this worthy example and see how they could also support the government to better serve the people and develop our dear state and the nation at large”
Speaking with newsmen during the unveiling of the housing project, Olakunle expressed readiness to commit more of his resources to aid developmental projects while thanking the governor for providing enabling environment and allowing individuals to share from his developmental vision for the state.
The community leader also used the occasion which coincided with his birthday to support some members of the community with cash grant, working tools such as sewing machines, hair dryers, barbing tools among others.
