The trade faceoff between two telecom giants, – Globacom and MTN has taken a new dimension as the latter informed its subscribers of plans to discontinue connectivity with Globacom lines.
This is because of reported Globacom’s refusal to pay several years of interconnect charges backlog.
Recall that the Nigerian Commutation Commission (NCC) early January declared that it will reduce the connectivity rate of Globacom’s lines to MTN. NCC said Globacom “does not have sufficient or justifiable reason for non-payment of the interconnect charges,”
A statement by MTN addressed to its subscribers om Tuesday, indicates that users of Globacom lines will not be able to make calls to MTN lines starting from Thursday, January 18, 2024. This will continue until Globacom offsets the interconnect debts
Here is what MTN sent out: “Following the directive from NCC, Glo subscribers will not be able to call you from January 18, 2024. Making calls to Glo subscribers is still allowed.”
Globacom is alleged to be owing a backlog of about 15 years and has refused to settle it despite repeated entreaties to do so.
