The 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army has said investigations are ongoing into the death of a labourer, Oluwaseyi Adeoye, who was allegedly shot by a soldier.
Adeoye was reportedly shot on Monday at a demolition site located at Ganic company, Orile-Imo, on the Sagamu-Abeokuta expressway.
The deceased was said to be a member of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development team assigned to demolish illegal structures in the area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Maj. Idereghi Akari, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and acknowledged the seriousness of the incident.
Akari disclosed that a board of inquiry had been constituted to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting.
He noted that the army had taken cognisance of allegations surrounding the incident involving a soldier and a labourer reportedly resulting in a fatality
“The Brigade acknowledges the gravity of the situation and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased.
“Consequently, a board of inquiry has been promptly constituted to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident,” he said.
Akari reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that findings of the investigation would be made public.
He also urged members of the public and the media to remain calm, promising further updates as the investigation progresses.
