The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has officially debunked viral social media reports claiming the death of veteran Yoruba actor, Chief Olalere OsunPaimo.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, the association confirmed that the iconic actor, popularly known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, is alive and in good health.
“We would like to inform the public that reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) are false,” the statement read. “We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health.”
The association urged the public to disregard the false reports, which it attributed to “unscrupulous individuals.” It also called for greater responsibility in sharing information online.
“We urge everyone to verify information before sharing to avoid spreading misinformation,” the ANTP advised.
The clarification has brought relief to fans and colleagues of the 85-year-old cultural icon, who is celebrated for his decades-long career in the Nigerian film industry.
