Lagos Stare Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has denied plans to sue the Economic Financial Commission (EFCC) who is reportedly waiting till the end of the governor’s tenure to arrest and prosecute him for corruption charges.
Speaking through the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, Sanwo-olu said he has neither instituted any law suit nor assigned anyone to file a suit on behalf to stop the EFCC from carrying out any of their plans.
A news article had taken the internet by storm on Tuesday, about the governor dragging the EFCC to court to stop the agency from prosecuting him after the end of his tenure as governor.
Pedro said: “It is disingenuous for the Governor who enjoys immunity as conferred on him by the Constitution and has almost three years ahead of him to brief any lawyer on this kind of matter.
“To the best of my knowledge and my inquiry confirmed that the EFCC is not investigating the Governor and has never invited him or threatened arrest of any member of his staff, domestic or otherwise.”
Pedro warns media organisations to be more cautious about the kinds of bews stories they publish, in order not to mislead the public. He added that the state government is investigating the source and intent of the news article and whoever had filed a suit on behalf of the governor without his consent.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been an exemplar in terms of service delivery, prudent and judicious management of the public resources.
“Therefore, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who is busy working assiduously on how to improve the living conditions of all Lagosians does not have anything to fear when he eventually leaves office at the end of his tenure in May 2027” the Attorney General said
