As part of the civic commitment of the Civil Society organization to promote the fundamental Human Rights and to commend and ensure a proper monitoring of the fairness in the State, the Centre for Human and Socio economic Rights (CHSR) has applauded the Lagos State House of Assembly for going back fully to the legislative business after 3 months of unnecessary apprehension to the legislative arms of government.
This was disclosed on Thursday during the Press Conference held at the Liberation center Ijaiye bus stop Lagos State, by the CHSR.
Speaking at the Conference, the President of the CHSR, Comrade Alex Omotehinse expressed that Lagos should remain considerate and let Democratic affairs reign in the state without any intruder or external force being allowed to disrupt and disorganized the State.
Indeed, Democracy can only succeed when collective interest of the overwhelming majority is not subsumed under the selfish Agenda of Individuals seeking to be the Lord of the manor in feudalistic conclave.
Therefore, he called for a progressive interrupted in the Lagos House to let the Speaker, Rt. Hon Mojisola Lasbat Meranda breath as a call to protect Democracy and demand unfettered Legislative process in affirmation of constitutional rights and privileges of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He stated further that the CHSR is not unmindful of the fact that the House of Assembly is a creation of the Nigeria constitution with the prerogativeto operate within the rules binding on members of the House, for it is pertinent to address the press on what now appears to be a lingering unease at the house over the Monday January 13, 2025 removal of the immediate past speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
The Civil Society submitted that it would be a monumental act of Treachery for Obasa to return as speaker with the barrage of allegations against his person.
However, he maintained that things should be dealt with appropriately in Lagos State than letting some individuals impose power or self decisions on the Lawmakers of the State especially when the majority have made their decision in the house of Assembly to set things straight and remove unwanted being.
He said further that 99 percent of politicians were no where to be found when the Civil Society and media were fighting for the Democratic society.
Meanwhile a lot of people have lost their lives In the process. He said.
Obasa ought to have told the public about the due process that was meant to be followed to remove the speaker of the State before any crisis and removal. He added.
Comrade Adegboyega Otunuga said let the conscience of Democracy breath In Lagos State without any ceremony of Godfatherism after corrupt speaker already being removed.
