The Lagos State Police Command has announced plans to increase the number of checkpoints across the state, in attempt to confront the rise in cases of ‘One-Chance’ armed robbers and kidnappers in some parts of Lagos.
‘One-Chance’ is a popular term used in Nigeria to refer to criminals who pretend to be commercial transporters to lure unsuspecting members of the public into their almost-full vehicles for the purpose of robbing them of valuables or kidnapping them.
The police plan was contained in a statement released by its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin via his verified X handle (formerly twitter). He pleaded with Lagos residents to bear the resultant slower traffic and minimal delays that may arise as a result of the stop-&-search on vehicles.
Hundeyin said: “Our daily situation reports have indicated a resurfacing of one-chance robberies in Oworonshoki, Alapere, Ogudu and Ketu.
“To stem this ugly trend, @LagosPoliceNG shall be embarking on increased checks in these areas which may result in some delays or minimal traffic buildup.
“We appeal to motorists for their understanding as this is in the interest of their safety and security.
