The Police Command in Ogun has arrested two security guards over the alleged murder of a traveler in Ibafo area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi said the suspects, Isikilu Dauda, 55, and Rasaki Abbas, were arrested by detectives from the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters.
He said the incident occurred on April 10 at about 7:00 a.m., following a tip-off from a concerned resident.
“Detectives promptly mobilised to the scene, rescued the victim and rushed him to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
“While being conveyed to the hospital, the victim, who identified himself as Promise, stated that he was attacked and macheted by security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night.
“He was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty,” Babaseyi said.
According to him, the body was documented and deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for a post-mortem examination.
He said preliminary investigation revealed a trail of blood linking the scene to one of the suspects, leading to his arrest, while further efforts led to the apprehension of the second suspect.
Babaseyi added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing accomplices.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution,” he said.
He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured that all those involved would be brought to justice.
Babaseyi quoted the commissioner as warning against unlawful violence and reiterating the command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial acts.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
