Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday formally installed Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, marking the official beginning of his reign.
The brief but symbolic ceremony took place at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, where Governor Makinde presented the new monarch with the staff and certificate of office.
In his address, Governor Makinde emphasized the Alaafin’s role as a custodian of Oyo’s rich cultural heritage, expressing confidence in Oba Owoade’s ability to lead with wisdom and integrity while fostering unity across the kingdom.
In his first official remarks, Oba Owoade pledged to focus on the development of Oyo Kingdom and improve the welfare of its people. He also expressed gratitude to the Oyo people for their trust and support.
Prince Owoade’s appointment as Alaafin of Oyo was announced last Friday, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who ruled for 51 years until his passing.
