The ministry of transportation in Lagos state has resolve the long existing crisis with the Lagos state Trucks and Cargo Operation Committee LASTCOC members and other union in constituting a committee that will over see the activities and operation of the union .
Engr Tamiyiu Oluwatosin , a director from the ministry of transportation expressed delight in the unity and peace that have result to the inauguration of the committe witnessed by various stakeholders in the sector , he also urged the committe to resolve any crisis that will jeopardize the activities of the operation as they are faced with the task .
Engr Jamiu also assured the committee of a level play ground in the relationship between the state government and the union ,
I wish to maintain that due to the procession of the Letter facilitated by all relevant stakeholders in the transport ministry, the union will be saddled with the “Authority of Operation” which give the committe to operate pending the Letters will be duly ready for full implementation “.
Hence ,the Patron of the union, Chief Remi Ogungbe advise the newly inaugurated committe to look beyond the crisis as the embark on the task ahead of them , he also applauded the Lagos state Ministry of transportation for a swift response in resolving the crisis .
Meanwhile, Lastcoc chairman, comrade Lukmon Shittu assured the state committe an all inclusive operation that will put an end in the frequent harassment, Extortion and killing of its members, he said
As a new inaugurated committe chairman, the era of illegal toll collectors , agents beating, harassing , braking or damage our trucks and the driver is over as we will set up committe that will also checkmate all complain from these menace toward our drivers also we are engaging all relevant stakeholders in the sector to create a smooth synergy with security agencies “.
Com Jamiu enjoined the union to be united as they look ahead to more challenges but caution the group against illegal tolls from unknown boys believe to be attached with the local government council .
Alhaji Sa’adu Yusuf, a Zonal operator in Agege , also the chairman of Arewa community in Lagos urge the union to look beyond all the challenges as Lagos state has built confidence and ready to see their output, he also decried the non implementations of penalties to defaulter due to their connection with higher authority , he caution that the government should also assist the union in restoring sanity on the road by establishing laws that will eradicate illegal tolls from heavy trucks and cargos.
The committe which consist of 4 zonal group with each from every all the zone were inaugurated,
Alhaji Lukmon Shittu was inaugurated as the chairman while Arewa community truck operator Alhaji Sani Bala was assigned secretary, others are Adeyanju Adewuyi (vice Chairman 1) Razak Igbalaye (treasurer) , Raji Adeshina (Financial Secretary), Akeem Yusuf (Pro) , Funmisu Ganiyu (Head of Operations), Oladimeji Olaseni (Organizing Secretary), Musa Shabiru (Assist Secretary) and Shola Omolola mad Seyi Mordecai as ex offio respectively.
Attendance at the inauguration were members of the police force, transport unions , Customs, Maritime, Lastma and other relevant stakeholders .
