Amidst the recent rise of inflation in Nigeria in the past one year under the President Bola Auhmed Tinubu administration, foods inflation are beginning to find it level as price fall low in few weeks due to increase in food production in Nigeria .
It will be recalled that food security in the country soar high as traders , farmers and consumer decried the low supply and high price of foodstuff in the market space across the country since the declaration of remove of fuel subsidy by President Bola Auhmed Tinubu on his inaugural speech.
Yet , His Economic policies have trail reaction from experts calling for a rethink of his policies mostly the one that touches the human so much , agriculture, which is the survival of a common man existence . Stakeholders have complain about insecurity, bad roads and the removal of Subsidy which have distort the rate of supply in the food chain .
Meanwhile, the recent fall in price of food have being trails to the long expectations of harvest produce by farmers in Akure , Jos , Kano , Zamfara and so other crops producing states . Popular Perishable food Market in Lagos , Nigeria and indeed south west is the Mile 12 International market ketu , which have a larger space for perishable produce that comes from all over the Africa for easy distributions to the final consumers in Lagos state and its environ . Alhaji Shehu Jubrin Usman, Chairman Mile 12 International market describe the recent fall in food price as timely due to harvest and government intervention in food security.
Alhaji Usman , stress on the insecurity , that have overwhelmed farmers in the north which have causes shortage of food supply in the country , he also alluded that food stuff are also imported from other Africa countries like Cameroon, Ghana , and others , which have made the food stuff very costly . Also he referred to the sudden removal of Subsidy which is very paramount in farming mechanism and transporting of the food wares to the market from the north to other parts of the country.
According to Shehu ; Most of the tomatoes that was in the market before now were imported from Cameroon which is not compared to our rich tomatoes so it was costly because we have few of our produces on ground, bad road was also a contributing factors which most of our long vehicle break down along the road ”
The price of tomatoes and peppers which soar to 150 ,000 naira in the past year have fallen low to 70, 000 per basket depending on the size of it , also , the imported ones from Cameroon are 50.,000 naira before but have fallen low to 25,000 naira in the market .
Alhaji Mohammed Natas , a trader and spokesman for the tomato sellers association stated that some the tomatoes flooding the market now are Ilorin , Abeokuta Odo oba , and northern foodstuff he said as at today ( Tuesday) the price of tomatoes have dropped rapid but a swift reaction from the Association of Onion sellers contradict the market price as it is still on the high side due to low production, Alhaji said ” most of the onion you see in the market are from Zaria , Kano and Zamfara , which are costly range from 120,000 to 94, 000 naira per bags , although more stock are just arriving due to the raining season but the Zamfara onion are called dried one which is also on the highest side of the onion market .
Meanwhile, Alhaji Dandama Mohammed the Board of trust Shukura yam market have denied the fall of some foodstuff , according to him, the hike in the product is traced to insecurity, high cost of diesel and bad roads from the north .
In all the dealers have also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a quick intervention in the plight of farmers , that the agricultural policies are a commendable one but should be more timely, they also call on the subnational to assist local farmers in their state to produce food , financially, mechanically and reduce taxes on the produce for consumption.
