The Federal Government is set to train 1,000 youth in Osun on how to recycle waste products to generate wealth and become financially empowered.
The Director General and Special Envoy of Osun State Government on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe, made this disclosure on the sideline of the ‘Waste-to-Energy’ training organised for youth and women in Osogbo on Friday.
Obuaku-Igwe explained that Osun organised a waste-to-wealth training for its youth in August and the Federal Government, after embracing the innovation, announced plans to scale it up at the national level.
She said the FG has now set February 2026 for the training programme in Osun and that those present at the waste-to-energy training would all be part of the FG national programme.
“Today’s training is the second batch of the inaugural one we had in August.
“The first one was on waste-to-wealth while this second one is on waste-to-energy.
“The goal is to target green entrepreneurship. To teach them how they can move away from a linear economy to secularity. To make them understand that waste is a resource.
“It is also an opportunity for them not only to keep their environment clean or improve their well being, but to also generate income,” she said.
Mr Taiwo Adewole, the Co-Founder of Waste Swap (a recycling company) who is to train the participants, said the Federal Government training in February is being sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
“The plan is for all the 36 states in Nigeria to produce 1,000 youths that will be train on waste to wealth.
“Osun State has, however, been picked for the inauguration of the training, because they have seen what Osun have being doing in the area of waste to wealth creation.
“We are going to be having four to five ministers that will be coming to the state in February to launch the training programme,” he said.
