A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday ordered that the ex-Queen of the Ooni of ife, Naomi Silekunola and two others be remanded at Agodi Correctional Center pending advice from the state prosecutor.
The suspects were arrested following a stampede that claimed several lives during a food giveaway event at the Islamic High School, Bashorun Ibadan, last week. The venue could not contain the population of the would-be beneficiaries, majority of who wee children.
The two other suspects charged alongside Queen Silekunola are the principal of the School, Abdullahi Fasasi and the proprietor of Agidigbo FM, popular for hosting the Kokoro-Alate show, Oriyomi Hamzat. They are charged on a four-count.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi, gave the order after men of the Oyo State Police Command brought them to appear in court.
Relatives of the defendants, bereaved families and other interested parties in the matter, thronged the court premises to follow up on the matter.
According to the police prosecutor, the offence was contrary to Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
