Writers have been charged to use the social media and digital technology to correct the ills of the society through their works.
The Rector of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Dr. David Adeoye Odedeji, gave the charge while receiving the Executive Members of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Ogun State Chapter, who paid him a courtesy call on Tuesday.
He enjoined creatives to continue to work hard in all genres to produce challenging and compelling works to change lives as they pay the necessary price for success.
“We can correct negative lifestyles through our writings. I enjoy deep thinking and well thought out lyrics replete in music of legends like Haruna Ishola and Evangelist Ebenezer Obey”, the Rector stated.
Dr. Odedeji stressed the need to revitalise the reading culture which he described as the bedrock for all professions adding that writing is essential even for scientific patent development.
The Rector who said he cannot but welcome ANA because of the contributions of a one time Chairman of ANA Ogun, Chief A. S. Ogundimu, to his career, thanked ANA for choosing MAPOLY as venue for the celebration of 2024 World Poetry Day and promised to support the hosting of SWAF in Abeokuta in April, 2024.
Explaining the rationale for the visit, ANA Ogun Chairman, Dr. Chris Omotosho, who described MAPOLY as home to the Association because of the generations of writers produced, asked for the Institution’s support to revive the reading culture and writing in the country through various strategic actions.
The ANA Chairman was accompanied on the visit by the General Secretary, Mr. Femi Sanyaolu, the Treasurer, Mr. Sam Ogunyinka, Head, General Studies Department, Dr. Lucky Aikabeli, immediate past Secretary, Olori Olatidoye and PRO, Pastor Dare Folarin.
