Ogun State is set to enter a new era of air travel as Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, will officially commence full commercial flight operations on October 7, 2025. The announcement was made on Tuesday evening by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The inaugural route will connect Ogun State directly with Abuja, operated by ValueJet, one of Nigeria’s fast-growing aviation companies. Under the approved schedule, flights from Gateway International Airport will depart every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m., while return flights from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Tickets for the first flights have been available since September 25 through online booking platforms, accredited travel agents, and airport ticket desks.
Speaking on the milestone, Governor Abiodun said, “We are delighted to announce that full flight operations will officially commence at Gateway International Airport. This development strengthens our vision to position Ogun State as a hub for modern aviation, commerce, and industrial growth.”
The governor noted that the airport’s commercial operations would not only enhance connectivity between Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory but also stimulate economic activity, attract investors, and ease both business and leisure travel. “Beyond strengthening connectivity, this development will boost economic activities, attract investors, and ease business and leisure travel for our people and visitors alike,” he added.
Gateway International Airport, which has been under phased development, is part of Ogun State’s broader strategy to modernize infrastructure and support industrial growth. Aviation experts say the airport could become a key player in Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector, particularly as the state positions itself as a strategic link between the southwest and the nation’s capital.
With the launch of ValueJet operations, Ogun residents and businesses are expected to benefit from faster, more reliable travel options, while investors and tourists will have easier access to the state’s growing commercial and industrial hubs.
