Ogun Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu OwotomoAbeokuta, Oct. 16, 2025 (NAN) The Ogun Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, has stated that the state is moving gradually towards self-sufficiency in food production.Owotomo made this known in Abeokuta on Thursday at a news conference to celebrate 2025 World Food Day.The commissioner said that the state government had embarked on transformative and community strengthened programmes especially for the benefits of farmers.He said that the state government had worked together with Federal agencies and dedicated farmers to build a resilient agrifoods system.Owotomo added that the agrifoods system would ensure better foods for today and brighter future for generations to come.” As we celebrate World Food Day 2025, let us renew our commitment to collaboration. I call on all stakeholders, including farmers, private sector, and international partners to join us in scaling these efforts.” Together, we can eradicate hunger, promote sustainable practices, and make Ogun state a model for food security in Nigeria,” he said.Owotomo disclosed that the ministry was planning to celebrate farmers through staging of an Agricultural show and farmers festival in 2026.He said that the state government had made remarkable strides in advancing food security and sustainability.” Under the visionary leadership of Gov. Dapo Abiodun, these initiatives align with Federal programmes, International collaborations and local innovations to empower our farmers and secure a prosperous future for our people.” We have procured essential agricultural equipment and implements; these include tractors, ploughs, harrows, planters, combined harvesters, which are to be distributed to beneficiaries any moment from now.” This is aimed at facilitating farm expansion, increase mechanisation accessibility by farmers, enhance productivity and increase food production.
