President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday departed Abuja to begin a 10-day working vacation in Europe, the Presidency has announced.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today, September 4, to commence a working vacation in Europe, as part of his 2025 annual leave.”
Onanuga explained that the vacation will last “10 working days,” during which the President will spend time between France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria.
The Presidency stressed that the trip is not only for rest but will also allow the President to attend to state matters while abroad.
Presidential vacations have often attracted public attention in Nigeria, with debates about transparency and governance continuity whenever the head of state travels. However, officials insist that modern communication tools allow the President to remain in touch with key aides and continue working remotely.
During Tinubu’s absence, Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to handle routine state matters, although no formal transfer of power has been announced.
The President is due back in the country later in September.
