The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has reassured residents of Ikeja that there is no cause for alarm over reports of a faint gas smell in the area.
Speaking on Friday, Ogabi Olajide, Deputy Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the odour was linked to a routine operation by Axxela Group, the parent company of Gaslink, which manages gas pipelines in the corridor.
“There is no cause for alarm. The gas odour being noticed in parts of Ikeja is a result of a routine decongestion of gaseous particles by Axxela Group. It poses no danger to the public,” Olajide said.
He added that fire crews are already on patrol to ensure public safety.
“Our teams are on standby and monitoring the axis as a precaution. The saturated air will soon dissipate and residents can go about their activities without fear,” he said.
Olajide also gave an update on the building collapse at 333 Borno Way, Alagomeji, Ebute-Metta, where emergency responders are currently at work.
“Three adult males have been rescued alive, while efforts continue to reach two construction workers still trapped under the debris,” he said.
The four-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed at about 7:46 p.m. on Friday before the arrival of first responders.
Olajide said further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
