No fever than five persons were confirmed dead in a lone accident involving a white Mazda E2000 bus at Iyana Egbado on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway on Thursday.
It was gathered that the accident occured at 11:12am.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun,
Oludare Ogunjobi, confirmed the incident in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Afolabi Odunsi on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Ogunjobi said the crash occurred at about 11:12 a.m. and was reported three minutes later, while FRSC rescue operatives from RS2.28 Itori Unit Command arrived at the scene at 11:20 a.m
He stated that the crash involved a white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC.
According to him, 20 persons were involved in the crash, comprising six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child and two female children.
The sector commander said five persons lost their lives in the accident, including one adult male, two adult females, one male child and one female child.
He added that 10 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, while five others escaped unhurt.
Ogunjobi attributed the probable causes of the crash to speeding and overloading.
He noted that the injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and Oreofe Specialist Hospital, Itori, for treatment.
He further stated that the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.
The sector commander sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to avoid speeding, overloading and other traffic violations.
He also advised drivers to comply strictly with traffic rules and regulations, especially during the festive period, stressing that road safety remained a shared responsibility.
