The Lagos State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a sharp rebuke to an aide of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s recent policy decisions.
The statement from the Lagos APC comes in response to comments from Atiku’s camp that labeled a recent presidential action as a “pardon U-turn.”
In a press release signed by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, on Wednesday, the APC dismissed the criticism as a “cocktail of ignorance, frustration, and political bitterness from a camp desperate for attention.”
The party defended President Tinubu’s decision-making process, stating that his leadership is “guided by law, not emotion.”
“In advanced democracies, informed review and reconsideration are marks of credible leadership and institutional maturity – not weakness,” the statement read. It argued that what the opposition termed a “U-turn” was, in fact, a legitimate process of “consultation and constitutional refinement.”
The APC release also launched a personal critique of Atiku Abubakar himself, suggesting the former vice president is out of touch with modern governance.
“Having left public office since 2007… Atiku clearly needs refresher courses in modern governance,” the statement said, adding that his ideas are “as stale as the repeated electoral losses that have now become his identity.”
Furthermore, the party questioned the moral authority of the Atiku camp to lecture on leadership, referencing what it called “unresolved scandals and unexplained fortunes” in Atiku’s political career.
The Lagos APC concluded by urging the public to ignore what it described as “media convulsions” from a defeated political corner, asserting that Nigeria is moving forward “and no amount of political tantrums will change that reality.”
As of the time of reporting, there has been no immediate public response from Atiku Abubakar’s media team.
