President Bola Tinubu, in a matter of days will carry out a reshuffle of the federal cabinet, during which some ministers may be booted out of office while new replacements, appointed.
This was announced on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
Speaking during a briefing of State House reporters at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Onanuga declared that the president’s decision is strictly based on evidence and performance reports of the ministers. He however refused to state a timeline for the reshuffling exercise.
He said: “Tinubu has expressed his intent to rejig his cabinet
“Let me tell you, I don’t have a timeline. The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. I don’t know whether it will happen before October 1, but he will surely do it. That’s all I can say.
“He [President Tinubu] hasn’t provided a specific timeline, but he has made it clear that it will happen,” Onanuga explained.
In his address, O’Tega Ogra, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital/New Media, further explained that the decision would not be arbitrary but driven by the performance reports which the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman presents.
He said: “The President’s decision to reshuffle his cabinet is grounded in empirical evidence. During the ministers’ retreat, he mentioned that there would be periodic reviews, and the outcomes of these reviews would guide his final decisions,”
Ogra added, “I know he has received several reports, and as Mr. Onanuga said, when he is ready, he will act.”
