The Yoruba Action for Change (YAC) has congratulated Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja on his installation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, urging him to champion unity and development among the Yoruba people. In a press statement made available to TheWest Newspaper, YAC emphasized the importance of preserving Yoruba traditions while remaining apolitical.
“Oba Ladoja’s extensive experience in public service and governance is an asset that can help the people of Ibadan and the broader Yoruba nation,” said Comrade Raji Rasheed Oyewumi, Convener of YAC. “We look forward to the positive influence his leadership will bring.”
YAC called on the new Olubadan to use his position to promote unity among Yoruba people both in Nigeria and the diaspora. “As a leader of one of our largest Yoruba heartlands, he is well positioned to strengthen ties across communities,” the statement read. YAC encouraged Oba Ladoja to prioritize shared heritage and common goals to heal divisions and build solidarity among Yoruba people globally.
The organization also urged Oba Ladoja to foster collaboration and mutual respect within the Yoruba traditional institution. “The Olubadan should focus on partnership and development rather than any notion of hierarchy or competition among monarchs,” said Oyewumi. YAC reminded all traditional rulers that working together leads to greater progress for their communities.
YAC emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Yoruba culture and spirituality. “As a custodian of our heritage, the Olubadan is expected to protect Yoruba traditional faith and customs alongside the modern religions practiced by many today,” the statement noted.
YAC urged Oba Ladoja to nurture the Yoruba language, festivals, and spiritual traditions to strengthen the Yoruba identity.
YAC also encouraged Oba Ladoja to use his political experience to adopt a balanced and principled approach to his reign. “While he should remain above partisan politics, his respected voice can help hold public officials accountable to good governance,” said Oyewumi. YAC urged the new Olubadan to speak courageously on behalf of his people and demand transparency and competence from elected leaders.
For Ibadan’s continued growth, YAC called for a strong partnership between the Olubadan’s palace and the Oyo State Government. “Collaboration with the Governor and legislative authorities is key to advancing development projects and improving public services,” the statement read. YAC urged Oba Ladoja to work closely with the state administration to attract investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and other vital sectors in Ibadan.
YAC offered its full support to Oba Ladoja as he begins his tenure. “We expect a leadership that is bold, inclusive, and committed to the welfare of all Yoruba people,” said Oyewumi. YAC stands ready to assist and partner in efforts that will unite the Yoruba nation, preserve their culture, and foster development.
“Congratulations to the new Olubadan,” said Oyewumi. “We look forward to a reign that brings unity, prosperity, and dignity to Ibadanland and the wider Yoruba nation.”
