Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde, former National President , National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has called on the Federal Government to adopt sincere dialogue in handling current security issues in Plateau State.
Akintunde spoke in an interview in Abeokuta on Thursday.
He explained that dialogue was key to addressing the incessant ethnic and inter-communal clashes in some parts of Northern Nigeria.
He added that a systematic
and analytical review of previous and current crises would holistically address the root causes and provide profound solutions that would permanently prevent recurrences.
The former National President of NACOMYO noted that robust rapport and consultations among stakeholders, with the involvement of mediation experts would address recent crisis in those states.
He stressed that there could be political, ethnic, economic, and faith undertones to the avoidable disturbances.
” The unabated crisis in both Benue and Plateau states has become worrisome and a recurring issue.
” Urgent action that will be proactive and enduring needs to be taken to arrest and put an end to the current insecurity.
” There is a need for a politically calibrated panacea that will guarantee enduring and sustainable peace.
” Moreover, there is a need to review the “anti-open grazing law,” which is too targeted, and recognize that the prohibitive law undermines the economic status of certain ethnic groups.
” A painstakingly procedural process involving the target group in policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation is key and germane in addressing the unabated violence being perpetuated.
” The Federal Government’s policy on pastoral farming should be given holistic attention, and states should be encouraged to embrace it,” he said.
