More revelations have continued to emerge surrounding the impeachment of the Ogun state House of Assembly Speaker, Kunle Oluomo who was booted out of the seat earlier on Tuesday. Oluomo was immediately replaced by Oludaisi Elemide from Odeda State Constituency as the new speaker.
Motion for Oluomo’s impeachment was moved by Adegoke Adeyanju from Yewa North 1 State Constituency and seconded by Ademola Adeniran, from Sagamu II State Constituency.
Some lawmakers have started speaking to the media, providing more details to the reason he was impeached. Among other things, they claim the lawmaker failed in his duty as a leader by his lack of focus and transparency in financial matters.
A lawmaker representing Obafemi Owode State Constituency, Damilola Soneye gave some insights. He said Oluomo’s impeachment was “…due to gross misconduct which bothers on high handedness, lack of focus and transparency, arrogance and poor leadership style, financial misappropriation and inciting members against themselves”.
Recall that in 2023, the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an 11 count charge against the former speaker bodering on conspiracy, forgery and stealing.
Meanwhile, the new speaker who immediately accepted his new responsibility, affirmed the assembly’s loyalty to Governor Dapo Abiodun. He said: “We are law abiding legislators. We want the world to know that there has been a change in leadership.
“18 members signed for me to be the Speaker. People should remain calm. We are in custody of all the authority of the House. We are saying that the new leadership will support the governor.” He assured
