The Ogun Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has commended retired police officers for their dedicated service and contributions to the Nigeria Police Force.
Ojajuni gave the commendation at the CP’s Commendation and Awards Ceremony held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.
He said the initiative was in line with the efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to recognise officers who retired after distinguished service.
The commissioner said serving in the police for 35 years was not an easy task, considering the pressure, risks, anxiety and stress associated with the profession.
“It is not easy to serve for 35 years. Police work is an onerous task. It is full of anxiety and stress,” Ojajuni said.
He said the recognition was aimed at appreciating the retirees and motivating serving officers to remain committed to their responsibilities.
Ojajuni particularly commended former Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Commander, CSP Murphy Akanbi Salami, describing him as hardworking, dedicated and committed to assignments.
He also commended Salami’s former deputy, CSP Olaifa Emmanuel, for his commitment and dedication to duty during his service to the command.
A total of 39 officers were recognised at the ceremony, comprising five retired officers and 34 serving personnel who distinguished themselves in service.
Speaking on behalf of the retired officers, Salami commended the IGP and Ogun Police Command for recognising their contributions to the force.
He described the ceremony as an inaugural event in the command and said such recognition would boost serving officers’ morale by showing that their efforts were appreciated.
“We are retiring today, but I want to assure you, we are not tired. At any point our services are required, we are there,” Salami said.
He described Ojajuni as a father, mentor and caregiver, while appreciating serving officers who worked with the retirees throughout their careers.
Ojajuni also acknowledged the families of the retired officers for sharing the burden and challenges associated with their relatives’ years of police service.
Among the retirees honoured were former SWAT Commander, CSP Murphy Akanbi Salami, DST Hanifa Bello, DSP Olaifa Emmanuel, DSP Ayanlola Olatuji and DST Saanu Johnson.
