Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III, the Owa of Igbajo in Osun State, has died at the age of 67 after a brief illness. His passing on Friday, November 28, 2025, was confirmed in a Sunday statement by the Gbeleru royal family.
The monarch’s reign was marked by a protracted legal dispute over the throne. Installed in November 2022 by the outgoing administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Oba Famodun was subsequently removed by the incoming governor, Ademola Adeleke.
A January 2025 ruling by the Osun State High Court reinstated him, though that decision remains under appeal.
According to the family statement signed by Prince David Famodun, the late Oba was a former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. The family remembered him as a leader who worked to “unite the people of Igbajoland, promoting peace, understanding, and progress.”
He is survived by his wife and children.
