Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed strong confidence in his re-election bid, declaring that no opponent can defeat him in the 2026 governorship poll.
Governor Adeleke, who made the declaration on Thursday after appearing before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Screening Committee in Abuja, cited his performance in office and the unity of the PDP in the state as key factors for his optimism.
“I am so confident that I am going to win. I defeated an incumbent and I am the governor. Within two years, it’s unprecedented what we have achieved. I’m so confident that nobody can beat us there,” Adeleke told journalists.
The governor dismissed concerns about the influence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level, stating he was “not afraid of any federal might.” He expressed belief that President Bola Tinubu would not sanction any action that could “mess up his administration,” noting that the Osun election would hold just before the next presidential race.
Adeleke also challenged the public to assess his administration’s record, referencing what he called “fact-checking.”
“You can go back and fact-check in Osun and see what is going on there… You can just Google it and check it out, you will know that we are doing very well,” he said.
When asked about his plans for a second term, the governor promised “more goodies all the way throughout Osun State,” adding his trademark phrase, “We’ll be dancing, and we’ll be working.”
Furthermore, Adeleke asserted that the Osun PDP is a united family, stating, “There’s no internal wrangling in PDP.”
In a related development, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Screening Committee, Adebayo Adepoju, indicated that the committee had reviewed the governor’s documents and was confident that the coast was clear for him to proceed.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun State governorship election for August 8, 2026.
