Ahead of the local government election in Lagos State, the Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area in Alimosho has begun gearing up, with APC caucus groups endorsing Prince Idris Balogun, also known as Oluomo Kafata, a philanthropist and politician, as the best candidate to steer the affairs of the local council.
On Tuesday, over 3,000 supporters braved the rain to gather at the White Royal Hotel on Isheri-Lasu Road, Lagos, to show their unwavering loyalty to the chairmanship aspirant. The crowd carried banners and chanted in support.
Hon. Idris Balogun, aka Oluomo Kafata (ORIJA 2025), addressed the crowd, expressing his gratitude for the turnout of ASM members from various wards in Egbe-Idimu. He prayed for success and upliftment for all aspirants and emphasized that, without violence or conflict, politics offers plenty of opportunities for shared prosperity. He declared his intention to run for the Egbe-Idimu chairmanship, stating that it was time to relieve the poor masses of their hardships in the area.
He further promised to distribute the dividends of democracy to all members of the community, including party members. He stressed that council chairmen should serve the people, as they are closest to the community. He pledged to ensure adequate education for students, improved healthcare facilities, and monthly cash empowerment for 200 people—not just token amounts, but substantial funds to support small businesses.
Hon. Balogun also promised to launch the “Operation Light Up Egbe-Idimu” initiative, which will distribute streetlights to every corner of the area. This project aims to create more opportunities for night-time marketers and commuters. On healthcare, he pledged to provide free medications for any illness at primary healthcare centers. In education, he promised to renovate schools, provide free uniforms and bags, and offer a conducive learning environment, complete with mini-school buses for Egbe-Idimu students.
On infrastructure, Hon. Balogun committed to improving roads in various streets and turning the LCDA into a smart business hub for investors. Additionally, he proposed quarterly town hall meetings with community executives, party chieftains, and royal fathers to discuss and resolve local issues.
He also assured that there would be no more reliance on LAPO loans for businesspeople. Instead, microfinance firms with zero-interest rates would be established to support local entrepreneurs. He promised to invest a significant amount of money into the microfinance bank.
Acknowledging the importance of local government autonomy, he expressed confidence that it would be enough to properly care for the members and communities. He urged his councillors and supervisors to be proactive in their duties to their respective wards.
Hon. Prince Idris Balogun concluded by reassuring all members of his readiness to serve and to keep their needs in mind during his tenure. He also revealed that he would be unveiling his manifesto in the coming days.
The event highlighted the presentation of ASM councilor aspirants, who are preparing for the 2025 primaries across all wards, as well as the reception of other political caucuses, including the Batco Mandate, by party leaders.
