The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) , Ogun Command, has organised a specialised workshop for its staff at the Local Governments for enhanced performance and reduction of road accidents in the state.
Speaking at the workshop in Abeokuta on Friday, Mr Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander , said the workshop was aimed at revitalising the activities of station officers for enhanced performance.
The sector commander added that the workshop focused on equipping officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively execute their duties.
According to Uga, the station officers play a pivotal role in promoting FRSC’s visibility and executing advocacy visits to churches, mosques, and other governmental agencies.
“Their responsibilities encompass providing feedback on driver licenses, facilitating rescue operations, and contributing to policy formulation and research statistics,” he said.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ganiu Hamzat lauded the initiative, urging FRSC to extend the workshop opportunities to vehicle drivers.
Hamzat, represented by his Permanent Secretary , Mr Rotimi Akinlesi, highlighted the constitutional mandate of the FRSC in safeguarding lives and property.
The commissioner stressed the need for continuous skill enhancement among LG station officers.
” The loss of lives and injuries recorded on road accident in this part of the world are on the high side , hence, the need for this continuous workshop,” he said.
Contributing, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Babatunde Gazal , emphasised that adherence to road safety regulations should apply to all, regardless of social status.
Earlier, Mrs Kikelomo Delano, Chairman , Ifo Local Government, advocated for comprehensive training , not only for FRSC personnel but also for the general public to improve response to road accidents.
