The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of several major roads in the city for the annual Lagos Fanti Carnival scheduled to take place on Monday, April 6, 2026.
The closures, which take effect from 7:00 a.m., are intended to accommodate the carnival procession, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Roads to be cordoned off include King George V Road at the junction by Mobil Filling Station, Onikan Roundabout inbound to TBS, Flagstaff House inbound to TBS, Outer Marina by State House inbound to TBS, Campbell Street by the Old Defence Building, and Catholic Mission Street by St. Nicholas Church.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has advised motorists to plan their journeys carefully and has released a list of alternative routes.
Vehicles coming from Obalende heading towards Onikan Roundabout will be redirected towards Zone 2, while those coming from Bonny Camp towards McEwen Bridge, as well as vehicles descending from Flagstaff House towards TBS, will be diverted onto Obalende Bridge. Motorists coming from Outer Marina towards TBS will also be rerouted onto Obalende Bridge.
The government apologised for any inconvenience the road closures may cause and thanked the public for their cooperation.
The Lagos Fanti Carnival is an annual cultural event celebrating the heritage of the Fanti people, a Ghanaian ethnic group with deep historical roots in Lagos.
