The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern condemnation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing its recent national convention as a spectacle that has exposed the opposition party’s “internal disintegration” and “reckless determination to drag the judiciary into avoidable disrepute.”
In a strongly-worded statement released on Tuesday by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the ruling party expressed deep concern over what it termed a “looming institutional crisis” stemming from the PDP’s handling of its internal affairs.
The APC specifically highlighted the “spectacle of conflicting rulings” from the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan, which were used by rival PDP factions to legitimize their positions.
“Such contradictory judicial pronouncements – circulated and manipulated like campaign leaflets – risk bringing our judiciary into global ridicule,” the statement read. It further posed a pointed question: “When did judicial pronouncements become an item available for purchase at Dugbe Market?”
The Lagos APC accused the PDP of normalizing the “dangerous practice” of selectively obeying court orders, a behavior it described as “confusion, lawlessness, and transactional opportunism.” The party warned that if left unchecked, this could set a “disastrous precedent” where litigants “procure judgments from the comfort of their bedrooms.”
The statement also pointed to the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the convention as an “unmistakable verdict” that the event lacked legality and legitimacy.
Concluding its rebuke, the APC asserted that “a party that turns justice into a political marketplace is marching boldly toward self-inflicted extinction.” It called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to intervene and reaffirmed its own commitment to “strengthening institutions” and “protecting democracy.”
