Wife of actor Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva has described as ‘false rumors’ a news story making the rounds that her husband had passed. According to TheNEWS and PMNEWS, Silva clarified in an interview that her husband is alive and well.
The report had claimed Jacobs passed on Sunday morning at the age of 82 but his wife insists the information is not correct.
Olu Jacobs, a celebrated Nigerian actor and film executive, has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian movie industry, affectionately known as Nollywood. With over 40 years of acting experience, Jacobs is regarded as a link between the old and new generations of actors. He received his training at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England and has worked with various British repertoire theatres, as well as appeared in international films.
In 2007, Jacobs was awarded the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. His influence in Nollywood is significant, having mentored many young actors and actresses. His passion for acting was ignited by the late Hubert Ogunde’s concert parties in Kano, Nigeria, which led him to study acting in London.
Jacobs has been recognized for his exceptional acting career, receiving the Industry Merit Award for his achievements at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Award from AMAA in 2016.
