Against a syndicated narrative spread across newsrooms on Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello voluntarily submitted himself to the commission for interrogation. EFCC said Bello was arrested by its officials and never submitted himself.
The media contractors of Bello, who is standing trial for an alleged misappropriation of N80.2 billion of public funds, money laundering and breach of trust, are in the habit of flooding the media space with half truths and image laundering press statements to whitewash the former governor.
This is not the first time the media contractors will be misleading journalists with twisted narratives. Tuesday’s syndication is just one of many.
The last time Bello was reported to appear at the EFCC office voluntarily, the Commission said he only showed up at the car park for a photo session to spread online and never really offered himself.
EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed that Bello did not submit himself but was rather arrested.
“We arrested him (Yahaya Bello) at 12.54pm; he did not surrender himself to the commission, three of his lawyers are here with him.
”Following his arrest, he is having a session with investigators of the commission.
”He is being detained in our custody and he is going to be arraigned in court accordingly,” he said.
