Mr Steve Oliyide, Media Aide to the Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has confirmed that the senator remained a bonafide member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Oliyide spoke at a news conference in Sagamu on Tuesday.
He dismissed reports of a “purported suspension” of Daniel, describing it as “a joke taken too far and an insult to democratic processes”.
Oliyide disclosed that the senator had not received a formal letter of his suspension from the party, hence he remained the bona fide member of the APC in Ogun state.
Daniel’s aide was flanked at the news conference by some leaders and stakeholders of the APC in Ogun East senatorial district.
He wondered why the leadership of a great party like APC in Ogun would announce a purported suspension of a serving senator and former state governor through an unknown Facebook post.
Oliyide noted that Daniel never received any official documents regarding his suspension from the party.
He, however, challenged the Ogun APC leadership to produce the letter written to formally suspend the senator as well as the acknowledgement of such a letter.
“Here, we are talking about a former governor of the state and a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
” It therefore suggests that such announcements can not be given any seriousness especially because there was no official communication about any offence, no allegation levied, no invitation to attend any investigative panel and no letter of suspension,” he said.
Oliyide noted that the alleged suspension of Daniel by the APC was nothing but a concocted scheme to discredit him ahead of the 2027 poll.
He called on the national leadership to ensure unity among party stakeholders and a reevaluation of party structures to ensure inclusivity and better electoral performance.
Oliyide urged the party leadership to address internal divisions and distribute party positions more equitably among stakeholders to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
