Engineer Adeola Adebanjo on Sunday emerged the Labour Party candidate for Surulere Federal Constituency1 by-election which holds on February 3, 2024.
At the party primary held at Tejuosho, Surulere, Lagos, Adebanjo defeated the other two contestants by polling 12 out of the 18 votes cast while his closest rival, Dr Adebayo Adefolaseye Adebomi polled six votes, the third aspirant Barrister Kenechukwu Osuji did not get any vote.
The primary election is to vote a representative that would represent the constituency vacancy left by Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who was nominated as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
The primary which was monitored by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Mr. Olugbenga Yakubu, Abejide Dupe Veronica, Bola Adewon, Eve Emuh and Mrs R.A Aliu was held under a tight security, as joint forces of Operation Mesa comprising of Police and soldiers stationed their men at the venue of the primary and the adjoining street to forestall breakdown of law and order.
The delegates that voted at the primary were drawn from the six wards that make up the Surulere Federal Constituency 1.
