The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advocated for mass conversion of truck and articulated vehicles engine from fossil fuel to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Mr Anthony Uga, the Ogun Sector Commander, stated this on Wednesday at the Ogun State Road Safety Advisory Council town hall meeting held in Ijebu-Ode.
The meeting is with the theme,” Transportation and Climate change”.
Uga, represented by the Ijebu-Ode FRSC Unit Commander, Murphy Ajayi, noted that it was important to manage climate change through effective control of carbon emission from road transportation.
The sector commander explained that CNG powered vehicles had been confirmed to emit about 25 per cent less carbon dioxide than petrol or diesel powered ones .
He stated that owners of trucks and articulated vehicles had been encouraged to take their vehicles for emission tests at least once a year.
Uga said that FRSC would sustain and improve its enforcement against excessive smoke emission .
” We will also continue to encourage the motoring public to embrace cycling for short distance mobility , CNG as vehicle fuel and join the campaign for climate action,” he said.
In his remarks, Folarin Ogunlana, representing, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), sensitised motorists on the need to adopt CNG for a cleaner and safety environment.
