The Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body in the state and the senior political caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has adopted Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as its consensus governorship aspirant for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached after a nearly two-hour closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, on Tuesday.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, GAC Leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, said members of the council were unanimous in their support for Hamzat, expressing confidence in his capacity to sustain and expand the developmental strides of previous administrations.
The council also disclosed that its members had resolved to collectively purchase the party’s N50 million nomination and expression of interest forms for the deputy governor.
Reacting thereafter on his Facebook page, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed that the Lagos chapter of the APC had similarly purchased the N100 million presidential nomination form for President Bola Tinubu, citing confidence in his administration’s Renewed Hope reforms.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said, “Today, I joined the meeting of the Governance Advisory Council held at Lagos House, Marina. After exhaustive deliberations, the apex advisory body of our great party, the APC in Lagos State, officially endorsed and adopted Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
“Femi has been a dedicated partner in all we have achieved for Lagos so far. The full support of the GAC gives us confidence that the work we have started will continue without interruption. We remain focused on staying the course and keeping Lagos moving forward.”
