Firefighters have contained a blaze at Afriland Tower, a six storey building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, after smoke spread through several floors on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the emergency call came in at 1:38 p.m., prompting crews from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations to respond.
“The fire originated in the inverter room located in the basement of the building, while smoke spread across multiple floors and engulfed the structure,” said Deputy Controller General Ogabi Olajide in a statement.
Olajide added that evacuation of occupants began immediately and that “firefighting operations have been concluded, dousing the earlier panic before the arrival of the first responders.”
No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
