The chairman Arewa community, Lagos state Alhaji Sa’adu Yusuf Gulma have assured the Lagos state government on total compliance with the environmental laws in Lagos state .
Alhaji Sa’adu in a stakeholders meeting with the Agege local government on “Hausa communities and other communities around the railway Corridors” on Monday at the office of local government chairman stated that it is illegal to trade or do any sort of business around the railway Corridors , he said .
“Some of our people have being on that various places for the past years trading things around the area but with the ongoing transformation in Lagos state , we have no option but to key into the system that is why we need to obey the laws of the government “.
He also called on the local government chairman Hon Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi to use his office to appeal to the state governor Mr Babajide Sanwo olu to give the traders some time to relocate to another permanent place which will be conducive for all parties.
Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi in his respond assured the Arewa community of government readiness to work with them but will not condole any form of trading at the railway Corridors, he cited the rubbles of recycled rubber bottles site at the railway Corridors, the illegal markets on the Agege road and also some shanties on the path , which he described as unlawful activities is not allowed in the local government.
Egunjobi also stated that a lasting solution to the issues will be a meeting that will brainstorm on alternative measures to fit in the traders in the local government rules , he suggested that they should come up with a plan on the length of time for vacation of the place .
Alhaji Sa’adu Yusuf in same vein urged the local government chairman to give the people a month notice before the enforcement , he also appeal to the traders and people within the railway Corridors to desist from illegal structures and shanties around government facilities.
Meanwhile, an undertaking was signed by the local government and the traders on the one month notices issued by the local government Chairman Hon Ganiyu Egunjobi and Arewa community chairman Alhaji Sa’adu Yusuf, Alhaji Mai kudi Haruna, Arewa community BoT , the representative of Seriki Agege Alhaji Ali Abubakar Zango (magaji Geri ) , HoD environment and the Council Manager.
In the closing remark , Hon Gbenga Abiola called on the Hausa Community to abide by the agreement and that the council is putting every necessary measures to make Agege Local Government and it’s environ secure , because that is the primary duty of a good government including local government area.
