National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, says the growing strength of the ADC Coalition has unsettled the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State, said the APC never expected the coalition to hold together, believing its infiltration of major opposition parties would weaken resistance before the polls.
Speaking Tuesday at a rally in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos, where defectors from the APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were formally received, Aregbesola described the ADC movement as “ordained” and accused the APC of impoverishing Nigerians through anti-people policies and entrenched corruption.
“The APC has become the nation’s worst nightmare. Nigerians are waiting for the ADC to rescue them from its stranglehold,” he said. “It would be wrong for us to fail in helping the people sack the APC in 2027. This is a major assignment given to us by Nigerians.”
He urged party members to take the upcoming voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seriously, mobilising more Nigerians to register and vote.
Also at the event, Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, Dr. Bamidele Ajadi, said the warm reception in Ojo showed Lagosians were embracing the coalition and rejecting APC’s “empty rhetoric.”
Lagos ADC Chairman, George Ashiru, said the turnout signaled that the party’s ideology was gaining ground. “The coalition is uprooting APC’s dominance across the state,” he said.
A party chieftain from Ojo, Oluwaseun Anabo, popularly known as McDede, said grassroots mobilisation was already underway to secure ADC’s victory in Lagos and nationwide.
“As a former PDP member, I know the political terrain here,” Anabo said. “We are confident that by 2027, the ADC will replace the APC and deliver the true dividends of democracy.”
