The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday ridiculed the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding its opposition coalition a “travelling company of serial defectors” doomed to implode before the 2027 elections.
Speaking barely 48 hours after the ADC National Caucus ordered Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APC members to renounce their old parties and register fully with the ADC, state publicity chief Mogaji Seye Oladejo dismissed the directive as “political bigamy.”
“Without shared vision, ideology or leadership, their so-called coalition is a house built on sand,” Oladejo said. “What you’re seeing is the natural consequence of opportunistic alliances formed only to grab power, not to serve Nigerians.” Oladejo said in a statement he sent to TheWest Newspaper
ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed Thursday that the “quit notice” to coalition partners is final, though no deadline was set. Former LP presidential candidate Peter Obi, absent from the Abuja meeting, sent apologies and reiterated “commitment” to the project.
Oladejo cited recent APC by-election sweeps as proof voters have “rejected confusion and disunity,” adding that while President Bola Tinubu pursues economic reforms, the opposition is “entangled in greed, mistrust and shameless contradictions.”
Political analysts say the ADC’s flirtation with Obi and disgruntled lawmakers signals appetite for a third force, but warn the coalition must first resolve internal rifts and craft a coherent ideology to threaten the ruling party.
“2027 is not about ADC’s survival,” Oladejo declared. “It’s about consolidating the gains of the Tinubu era, and only the APC is standing firmly with Nigerians.”
