As the countdown to the Lagos State Local Government election continues, the All Progressives Congress (APC) warns candidates against the practice living outside their respective council areas if elected as Chairmen or Councillors.
Before now, many Local Government Chairmen and Councillors, immediately after their election, relocate to other areas of Lagos and Ogun states, which they deemed more secured and upscale than where they hitherto lived.
Speaking at the APC Stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the state House, Marina on Tuesday, State Party Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi said such a practice will no longer be condoned by the party. He warned that any council chief found wanting as regards this practice will be sanctioned.
Among other things, Ojelabi said: “We won’t tolerate any council Chairman that lives outside his council area. Any council Chairman that is reported to live outside his council area will be sanctioned,”
Earlier, the party had officially presented flags to its 57 chairmanship and 376 councillorship candidates who will contest on the APC platform.
According to the party publicity secretary, Seye Oladejo, Tuesday meeting served as the rallying point for the mobilisation of members towards the local government elections.
