Troops of the 81 Division Nigerian Army have intercepted 320 wraps of a substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa during a routine patrol in Alamutu, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the soldiers accosted a suspected transnational drug syndicate on April 2, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking in the region.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, the suspects fled into a nearby bush upon sighting the troops. The illicit drugs were being transported on two motorcycles, which were recovered along with the exhibits.
“The recovered items have been handed over to the 35 Artillery Brigade Military Police for subsequent transfer to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, for further investigation,” Ayeni said.
The operation aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, which emphasizes collaboration with security agencies to eradicate criminal activities.
Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, commended the troops for their vigilance and urged them to intensify efforts against criminal elements.
“The General Officer Commanding has charged the troops to upscale the crackdown against criminals to rid society of crimes and provide a conducive environment for law-abiding citizens,” Ayeni stated.
Mijinyawa also issued a stern warning to criminals, advising them to abandon illegal activities or face the full wrath of the law.
Authorities have called on the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to aid in maintaining peace and security in the region.
