The Odugboro family of Makun in Sagamu local government area of Ogun, has appealed to the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun to save them from the activities suspected land grabbers who had taken over their family land situated at Sagamu GRA extension .
The family who made the call during a protest in Sagamu on Sunday , said the suspected land grabbers had encroached their family land and already selling part of it to unsuspecting members of the public
The protesters, armed with placards with various inscriptions, such as ; ” The police should speed up the investigation of our petition,
“Odugboro’s ancestral land can not be taken over by land grabbers”, “The Ogun State government please, prosecute the land grabber”.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Azeez Ashiru, a member of Odugboro family, expressed displeasure that the land grabbers disrupting the peace of their family land were yet to be prosecuted.
He lamented that the activities of the hoodlums led by one Ganiyu Onimale had became a huge threat to the lives of residents.
He added that the family had petitioned the State Commissioner for Police, the State Government and the Special Adviser to the governor on Security, calling on them to assist the family in getting justice and prosecute the landgrabbers if found wonton.
He explained that the Ogun State Landgrabbing law should be enforced at this moment.
“We intend filing a civil suit which might likely take years but why we are doing that in the interim, we want government to prosecute the criminal part of this allegation .
“The family will definitely file a civil suit to recover the land . Unfortunately he has sold part of the land to unsuspecting members of the public.
“We have to seek for justice and seek for the recovery . The people who have built on the land needed to be protected from these landgrabbers
” He invaded the land on the March 28, 2024 and he’s still there up till now,” he said.
Also speaking, the Baale of Odugboro, Sunday Odunukan said the land belonged to the Odugboros, saying that the landgrabbers were trespassers claiming to be member of the family.
Odunukan called on all stakeholders, particularly the Ogun state governments to join forces to prosecute the land grabbers in line with the Land Grabbing Act in the state.
The baale stated that if all the efforts failed, the family would proceed to court for legal action against the leader of the landgrabbers who claimed to be member of Odugboro family.
Odunukan called on Ogun state governments as well as security agencies to rescue the family and residents on this from these alleged land grabbers in line with the Landgrabbing Act in the state.
Reacting to the allegations, Ganiyu Onimale popularly called Genegene however debunked the family report saying that he was never a landgrabber but a member of the Odugboro family who had right to the land he currently occupied.
Onimale said “what they have said is all lies, I am a member of the family, I am not a landgrabber, I have documents for the land in my possession.
” The Ogun State Commissioner of Police is aware of this matter, so what they are saying is baseless and outright falsehood,”he said.
