More than 100 days after President Bola Tinubu suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Betta Edu, for an alleged N585 million disbursement scandal, a group Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on Mister President to consider the appointment of Dr. Adenike Halimat Tejuosho as Edu’s replacement.
North-east leader of the group, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, in an open letter (a copy of which was made available to TheWest Newspaper), implored President Tinubu to appoint Dr Tejuosho without further delay as Nigeria’s new humanitarian minister.
Ibrahim said: “There are several philanthropists and true humanitarian icons among Nigerian men and women who can manage this ministry. However, Tejuosho’s humanitarian services can be seen in all the 36 states of the federation including FCT, especially to us the people with disabilities.
“The woman that has been there for the disabled people and the less privileged in the society who we wish can be used to head humanitarian ministry is HRM Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, a woman who is committed to humanitarian services with integrity.
“We the 37 million persons with disabilities in Nigeria are appealing to you to kindly consider the will of the people to appoint Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho and her likes to head the ministry of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation
“This is in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President that will bring unity, peace, progress and prosperity to our dear country, Nigeria.” the letter reads
