The chairperson of National Association of Women Journalist Nawoj,Lagos state council comrade Dr Adeola Ekine have called on women in Journalism to get involved in the practice as a matter of urgency .
Comrade Adeola in an interview with the west .ng decried the non involvement of women in leadership positions of journalism, she explained the attitude of female journalist need to be spar or attractive with the male counterpart in the sector, according to her
” our women folks need to be involved in the active journalism on what we know not according to our gender, we are capable of doing things according to the male journalist but pressure have made many female journalist to hold back on their dreams ” She went further to state that we are not attract on the male counterpart , we are not contesting with them but we are always asking for a female sensitive beats,like cran, aviation, maritime and energy beats .
Majority of female journalist have done well, we should be draft according to what we bring in the table that is what we share and have passion for .
Meanwhile, the Nawoj chairperson refrained on some of the problem women encounter when it comes to supporting women counterpart in the system, some of our women folks like bringing down our women folks instead of appraising them to attain leadership in the sector , also she urged the female journalist to come together to unite for a common goal as to gain recognition in the sector she also advise all the female journalist to put in their best in every aspect they found themselves .
In the national women in Journalism election slated to hold in 25th November, Adeola urged all women to support the Aisha Cole for the Assistant National secretary because she is the only candidate contesting election in News Agency of Nigeria NAN , Nawoj Lagos council .
